Northern Burgundy - on the Seine & Yonne River
Sunday: We meet at your hotel in Paris and travel by private motor coach to Samoi-sur-Seine, where you will board Your Ship for a welcome reception with Champagne & petits fours, followed by a short walk before dinner.
Monday: Cruise to Montereau. Possible excursions
- Chateau de Fontainebleau, famous Palace where the French Kings used to hunt.
- Barbizon, hometown of the Ecole de Fontainebleau painting movement, with the Auberge Gannes, where the artists used to live. Many Art Galeries in the village.
- Moret-sur-Loing, where Impressionnists once lived and took their inspiration (Sisley’s house), the Candy Museum of the Nuns of Moret and the Grange Bateliere,house of Clemenceau, named "Pere La Victoire", stateman of WWI
Tuesday: Cruise to Courlon-sur-Yonne, a beautiful setting on the River.
- Chateau Vaux Le Vicomte, one of the most beautiful palaces of France, built by Fouquet, finance minister of king Louis XIV, which inspired the building of Versailles by the same 3 artists: Le Vau, architect, Le Brun, painter, and Le Notre, gardener. Fouquet’s arrest inspired the famous story "The Man with the Iron Mask".
- Visit Provins, a magnificent restaured medieval town in the near Champagne region with 12th and 13th cent. fortified walls and typical picturesque wooden houses and its Medieval & Renaissance Museum. Historical Live Show and Shopping available.
Wednesday: Cruise and mooring in the city Center of Sens.
- Cathedral St Etienne, a magnificent piece of Gothic Art, and the Synodal Palace, where the bishops used to live. Magnificent collection of Religious Art and private collection of the bishops. In the cellars an impressive Gallo-Romain archeological tresure. shopping available.
Thursday: Cruise to Villeneuve-sur-Yonne, a very charming village with medieval gates to enter the village.
- Visit Auxerre, a beautiful Medieval City and pleasant port on the Yonne river. See the Cathedral and visit the Abbaye St-Germain.Shopping available in this bubling city, cobblestones pedestrian streets in the old quater and open Market.
Friday: Cruise to Joigny along the first vineyards of Burgundy.
- Extensive visit & wine tasting of the most famous Chardonnay in the pretty village ofChablis, called the "golden gate" of Burgundy with narrow stone streets and houses dating from the 14th to the 16th century.
